2007 tax year guidelines (4/15/08 deadline): $4,000 for individuals; $8,000 for married couples filing jointly (up to $4,000 for each spouse’s IRA); additional $1,000 “catch up” contribution for people 50 years or older.

2008 tax year guidelines
: $5,000 for individuals; $10,000 for married couples filing jointly (up to $5,000 for each spouse’s IRA); additional $1,000 “catch up” contribution for people 50 years or older.

New FDIC regulations insure IRAs up to $250,000.
